Pffft, fat chance. Do you know how many times I've hurled in the pot since I've been here?
[ she releases her friend's pinky and then shifts slyly so her leg can clip around one of hers underneath the blanket. if sharon needs to go anywhere, jinx is not going to let her go anytime soon with the way she has her locked in. ]
If I can handle... bleh, spaghettiOs, then I can stomach you.
[ Jinx pins her leg in place, and Sharon can't help the small smile that curls up, something warm and private, but it falters the instant Jinx slanders the tomato-soaked pasta in a can. ]
Hey, I love spaghettios! Sure, they're not great straight from the can, but warm them up, throw in a little salt and pepper, maybe some powdered parm, and they're delicious. [ Her mock outrage is unmistakable, followed by a muttered: ] Next you'll tell me you hate boxed mac and cheese.
Aaaah... [ she nods slowly, soaking in the information but then says:] —So that's why your breath smells like a dead frog's ass after it's been roasted under the sun for a week.
[ the bluenette rolls off her friend's chest and settles herself against the cozy pillow, mischief curling in her smile. ]
That kiss had a real hop to it, really got my brain swimming in the swamp.
[ Sharon stares hard at Jinx with a narrowed gaze before she shoves her. ] Keep talking like that, and that'll be the last kiss you get from me. [ Amusement slips into her tone, eradicating any potential threat in her words. ] You have to accept me when I've got dead frog's ass, garlic, or fresh mint breath, bitch.
[ when shoved, jinx reels back to her but opens her mouth wide to playfully bite on sharon's shoulder. there's absolutely no pain when her teeth meet the fabric of her sleepwear, and she remains herself there until she does something about it.
childish? yes. stupid? yes. but she'll do it if it'll get a laugh out of her. all the while, her leg stays lock with hers lovingly despite how she's behaving right now. ]
[ Jinx leans in and sinks her teeth softly into Sharon's shoulder, playful as anything. The surprise flickers across Sharon's face before she laughs under her breath. With her free hand, she reaches over and gently pinches Jinx's nose shut.
[ what a bold move! she gags and lets go of her friend's shoulder and quickly ducks her entire body underneath the blanket. she is obviously fine; there's no real damage to what just transpire, but that doesn't mean she won't be dramatic about it. ]
[ Jinx's reaction pulls a bright laugh out of her. ] Oh, come on, BiteyMcGee. If you're gonna bite me, expect retaliation. [ She says as she pats the Jinx-shaped lump tucked beneath the blankets. ]
[ do you hear that sharon? the silence? because she is staying as still and quiet as the dead underneath those blankets. is she angry? did she magically fell asleep? ]
[ Sharon keeps patting, harder and harder, until it borders on shaking her outright. When that still earns no response, she ducks beneath the blanket, wriggling in awkwardly to angle herself closer, her leg still hopelessly tangled with Jinx's.
It's stuffy under there, uncomfortably warm, smelling unmistakably of Jinx. ]
I took your breath away, huh? [ Deadpan and smug all at once. Apparently, she's got terrible jokes too. ]
[ her voice high-pitched and raspy on purpose to mimic a crusty old mage. jinx wiggles her fingers towards sharon's direction; tiny flakes of snow drizzle between them to make the heat underneath the covers not as unbearable. ]
[ Sharon lets out a quiet snort at the sound of the voice, rolling her eyes where no one can see. She feels the temperature change as the snowflakes dissolve in the warmth. It's pleasant, even if it's still stuffy. ]
'tis I, a knight, come to suffocate alongside a cranky hermit.
[ she exclaims, keeping her fingers moving so the temperature won't rise. ]
I am not a cranky hermit, but a wounded one. I fought many battles, my dear, and I've come here to rest.
Alas, the nights have been long and cold and I surely will die in this cave, but I've done all my duties in life, so the reaper I'll welcome with open arms.
Why, I could take care of those wounds, make your nights warmer, and provide you a new duty if you would welcome me with open arms. [ Her voice takes on a curling, flirtatious note as she reaches for Jinx's wiggling fingers to lace their hands together. ]
[ she hums carefully as if she is genuinely considering her offer with their fingers coiling into one. and when she speaks, it's just as low and just as seductive. ]
Tempting... Are you sure you want to get tangled up with me? I'm pretty villainous, you know. I might smother you in your sleep or rob you blind.
Then I would gladly die poor. Who wouldn't give up life and riches for one night with you? [ Sharon leans into the dramatics. There were plenty of nights where she daydreamed beneath her blankets, adventurous scenarios playing out in her head, but rarely did they ever go this route. ] Even the most villainous deserve love.
[ heat blooms across her freckled cheeks, and she pitches her eyes away to glance down at their hands before giving it a gentle squeeze. ]
Boy... you've got me stumped.
[ a sheepish chuckle, biting her lower lip in an extremely poor attempt to keep herself from grinning like an idiot. to have a special someone like this does sound lovely, to have a person to call her own to love, cherish, and care for.
and it's nice to know that somebody out here in this cruel world believes she deserves love—even if jinx believes sharon's view on that is way too hopeful. she isn't right for anyone—too messy, too impulsive, too... wrong and different. but it is a little nice to play pretend underneath the blanket with her, to play this role of the most luckiest girl in the world who is surrounded by family, friends, and a soul mate. ]
[ Satisfaction coils hot along the tether, an indulgent curl, like some well-fed cat lapping milk from a saucer. It purrs there, heavy and pleased. Sharon likes this feeling. She is good at this, at finding the cracks in Jinx's armor, the places where confidence wears thin and something softer peeks through.
She tugs Jinx's hand closer and leans in to press a kiss to their knuckles. ]
Guess so. [ Cocky as shit, the satisfaction still humming between them. ]
[ out of all of their little moments together, it's the kiss to her knuckles that seems to really do her in. her face is beet red now, and she scurries her head out of the blanket as if to portray her lungs are crying for air (and they are), and not due to her mind getting bristled with girlish thoughts.
sure, sharon was just pretending to be a knight, and jinx was going along with it, but did her friend have to press hard into the chivalry? because it's jumpstarting her heart to believe that she is extremely important versus just... plain important. and she is definitely not that, right? still, she keeps her hand knotted with sharon's, only jerking her head away to glance at the wall behind her to hide her obvious smittenness. ]
[ Jinx slips out from beneath the covers to the sound of Sharon's laughter, bright and unrestrained. Sharon follows after, drawing in a deep breath of the cool, fresh air as she does. Her smile is wide and unapologetically toothy, edging into outright braggadocio, their fingers still tightly interlocked. ]
[ she shut her eyes for a quick moment to regain her composure and then whirls her head back to face her friend. when Jinx does, she leans in smoothly, practically nose to nose with her, as if she is about to steal another kiss, yet she doesn't go in for the kill. no, instead, her eyes lock tight to sharon's blues, the shine of it so flavorless now since there's no shimmer igniting through her veins. ]
You can't steal what's not there.
[ her tone chimes with an ominous roll, but at least there's nothing major affixed to it. no trace of sadness or anger... though, a small sprinkle of aloofness is tangling itself underneath her syllables. ]
[ The excitement is almost tangible. Her lips remain parted, the smile lingering as she holds Jinx's sharp, vivid gaze without looking away. To her, it's another game, another scene where they both know their roles and lean into them. ]
You might not see what's right there inside of you, but I do. [ With her free hand, she reaches up and presses her fingertips to Jinx's chest, right above her heart. ] It beats just as warm as anyone else's. You've just forgotten how to care for it.
[ her lips curl into a smile too; it's hard not to when it's this contagious, but it's not as spirited as her friend's. instead, it's short and flimsy and she breathes out a quietest of chuckles. ]
It's what the knight believes of the hermit, but it's what I believe about you, too. [ The words fit both easily. Sharon leans back, the edge of her playfulness easing into something quieter. ] I know what it looks like when someone is missing their heart. Yours is still there, even if you refuse to notice it.
[ Alessa gave up her heart eighteen years ago to create Sharon, and she remembers the hollow that followed. How empty life felt. How stripped of love she had been. The memory still haunts her, both for how deeply it hurt and for how simple everything became afterward. To feel nothing. To love no one. To exist only to strike back at those who caused pain. It was brutal in its own way.
Jinx shields herself however she can, layers upon layers of defense, but it is all in service of protecting what is fragile inside. Sharon can see it clearly. A small, cautious heart, wrapped in thorns and traps, guarded and bristling, but not sealed away so tightly that nothing else can reach it. ]
[ she says nothing again for a little moment, her head resting deep against the pillow as her eyes bounce sluggishly over sharon's features. she isn't looking for a sign but rather taking her time to absorb whether she has any birthmarks, wrinkles, freckles, or faded scars. her gaze dances down to the hand on her chest; her free hand (which lacks a middle finger) carefully brushes over it, and her smile softens. ]
... You're too good for me. [ jinx mutters, then scoots closer until the tips of their noses bump; her tone then twists into a whisper—like she's confessing to a secret. ] But I still wanna keep you.
